Fired ‘Vanderpump Rules’ star Stassi Schroeder addresses her racially insensitive remarks
Stassi Schroeder broke her silence in a recent no-holds-barred interview with Tamron Hall. Schroeder, who was fired from the Bravo reality TV show in June 2020 after past racially insensitive remarks resurfaced, spoke about the consequences of her actions. When asked why she remained silent all summer, Schroeder explained she needed time to process her feelings, to process what happened.
One of the most frustrating parts when this all went down was that people expected Schroeder to just understand everything immediately and things like that take time. And Schroeder felt like it would be better for her to get a greater understanding of everything and the issues before she opened her mouth again. Schroeder also took full responsibility for her situation.
A lot of people wanted Schroeder to focus on cancel culture and whether she was a victim or not, and it is just not how she feels at all. Schroeder admitted that although she does not label herself a racist, she has not been “anti-racist”, and that is something she has been learning throughout all of this. Schroeder and fellow castmate, Kristen Doute, were terminated after former “VPR” cast member Faith Stowers, a Black woman, revealed in an interview that Schroeder and Doute once called the cops on her in 2018 and tried to pin crimes on her she did not commit.
Stowers said that an article was posted online of an African American woman who was allegedly wanted for theft, and Stassi Schroeder and Doute thought Stowers looked like the woman and reported her.
Schroeder understood the ramifications of her actions and how Stowers’ life could have been negatively affected. Schroeder had spent the last months working with a teacher and learning about everything, and there was so much that she did not know. Schroeder did not understand that just because something was not about race for her, does not mean it is not about race for the other person because she is bringing her experience as a White privileged woman to this situation and the other person is bringing her experience as a Black woman into this situation, and because it is about race for her, it is about race.
And that is something that Schroeder has realized. As for what she plans on teaching her daughter, Schroeder added that she just wants to be a better person. Schroeder wants her daughter to be proud of her. Schroeder wants to be a part of the solution, she has been a part of the problem for years now, and she has recognized that. That is why Schroeder does not feel like she is a victim of cancel culture.
People want Schroeder to be mad at it and she is not, she needed it. Besides Schroeder and Doute, “VPR” newcomers Max Boyens and Brett Caprioni were also fired after both had racist tweets from their pasts uncovered. Bravo and Evolution Media confirmed that Schroeder, Doute, Boyens, and Caprioni will not be returning to “Vanderpump Rules”. Shroeder is not planning on making a comeback either.
That ship has sailed, and Shroeder’s life feels very different right now, getting drunk and starting conflict and misbehaving on a reality show is not her journey anymore.
