Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s US election intervention ‘violated’ terms of ‘Megxit’ deal with the Queen
The Sussexes’ United States election intervention violated the terms of the ‘Megxit’ deal Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have with the Queen. The Sussexes’ comments could further risk their links to the monarchy, with senior courtiers discussing how to further distance London royals from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle called on American voters to reject hate speech, misinformation, and online negativity in the most important election of their lives.
The Sussexes’ comments have been widely interpreted to be a swipe at United States President Donald Trump. Members of the royal family are supposed to be politically neutral, and under the Sandringham accord agreed in March 2020 when the pair quit their royal duties, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle vowed that everything they do will uphold the values of Her Majesty. However, the Sussexes’ comments have broken their promise.
It is a violation of the agreement. If the agreement is deemed to have been violated, Prince Harry’s chances of resuming his connections to the Royal Marines and other military posts he holds dear could be under threat. The arrangement Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have with the royal family will be reviewed by The Queen, the Prince of Wales, and the Duke of Cambridge.
The Queen had agreed to keep the positions vacated by Prince Harry open during the review period so that he could return if it was deemed appropriate.
One such position is the captain general of the Royal Marines. The door was left open, there were some things that Prince Harry hoped he could opt back into. Prince Harry dearly wants to hang on to the Royal Marines and the military appointments. That will be harder now. This will likely come as a blow to Prince Harry. The Sussexes’ roles as president and vice-president of the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust is also expected to come under review, and conversations even included whether Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could be stripped of their HRH titles.
Currently, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle still have these titles, but are not allowed to use them. However, the view is they could not remove Prince Harry’s title, pointing to the fact that even Edward VIII kept his HRH when he abdicated. Buckingham palace distanced itself from the Sussexes’ remarks, with the monarch embarrassed by the comments. A spokesman for the Sussexes said their message is not in reference to any specific political party or candidate, but is instead a call for decency in how people engage with each other.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made their remarks just weeks before the election 2020 with Americans in some states already going to the polls. The remarks made waves on both sides of the Atlantic. The Queen and her family are expected to remain politically neutral at all times, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had crossed a line. Buckingham Palace also distanced itself from the remarks by saying that Prince Harry is not a working member of the royal family and his comments was made in a personal capacity.
Prince Harry urged Americans to be careful about what kind of content they consume online.
When the bad outweighs the good, for many, it erodes the ability to have compassion and the ability to put oneself in someone else’s shoes. Because when one person buys into negativity online, the effects are felt exponentially. It is time to not only reflect, but act. On September 25th 2020, the Sussexes’s last official tour as members of the Royal Family cost British taxpayers almost a quarter of a million pounds.
The high-profile trip to South Africa, Botswana, Angola, and Malawi had been billed as one of the showpiece events of the royal year. But Prince Harry and Meghan Markle left months of work by staff and diplomats in tatters after they launched a stinging rebuke against the media during the publicly funded trip, as well as secretly recording an explosive TV documentary in which Markle painted Prince Harry’s family as uncaring by accusing them of failing to ever ask if she was ‘OK’. The Sussexes, who also took baby son Archie on the trip, stepped down as senior working royals months later, and now live in the United States, where they are financially independent having signed a multi-million-pound deal with Netflix.
Royal accounts published show £245,643 was spent on scheduled flights and a private jet for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and their entourage, making it the most expensive royal trip of the year. It was a key visit approved by the Foreign Office and helped highlight the work of numerous charities. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle undertook over 20 engagements, bringing attention to a number of worthwhile causes, in particular, raising awareness of the work and the legacy of the Halo Trust.
As an official visit funded by the Government, the visit fulfilled the objectives that were set out for it.

On September 5th 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who are currently living in their $14 million mansion in Santa Barbara, signed a new mega-deal with Netflix which could be worth as much as $150 million.
Since stepping back as working members of the royal family, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had been thriving and had taken their careers as philanthropists to a whole other level. It shows how much they were held back by tradition, hierarchy, and stubbornness within the institution. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are absolutely happy now. This is Prince Harry and Meghan Markle operating in a way they were desperate to for some time but could not for a number of reasons, many of which tie into what is considered too politically sensitive or not.
There is no more pragmatic a family than the royal family and they are capable of having positive and healthy relationships with anyone. This was not necessarily about the relationships between the royal family members and Markle, it was about the institution of monarchy and how they supported her. Had Markle of come in and done everything by the book, rather than ever come up with her own ideas, or challenge a way of working, or bring in her own ideals than it may have been very different.
But that is not what one can realistically expect from a human being.
Prince Harry loved Markle’s dynamism, it is what made her so exciting to be a team mate with. It was that, and the things about Markle just did not fit in with the way things were done in the institution. Rather than anyone trying to accommodate those differences, it was quickly seen as something very problematic and something many tried to extinguish through leaking stories to the press and making the couple’s lives difficult internally.
It is why now we see them thrive now in a way we have not seen in a long time. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are happy with their new lives in America. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle failed to tell the Queen about their Netflix deal before announcing it to the world. The Queen is all too aware of the pitfalls of when senior royals embark on lucrative projects, Prince Edward’s production flop and some of the deals Sarah Ferguson has signed over the years, to name a few.
The Queen’s view is simple, the Royals are not for sale and danger surrounds high profile roles outside of the institution itself. However, the Queen knowing her grandson Prince Harry as she does, will appreciate that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle can not be talked out of their plans. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had founded a production company to make documentaries, feature films, scripted shows, and children’s programs.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are expected to make content which includes work on mental health, an animated series about women, a nature documentary, and shows on community service. However, royal officials will examine the Sussexes’ Netflix deal after they agreed to approval of any new commercial ventures when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle quit public life. A palace insider claimed that despite ditching official duties, any profit-oriented plans would be subject to discussion.
There are questions over how it will look to the taxpayer when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have still not paid off the £2.4million spent on refurbishing Frogmore Cottage in Windsor. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle did leave as working members of the family with everyone’s best wishes and it is sincerely hoped they find the happiness that appeared to be lacking in their lives. However, it goes without saying any deals Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are making will be scrutinized by the royal household.
